Product Insights
The ARB Teak Coach Small Teak Wood Shower Bench is a 100% Grade-A teak bench with high natural oil content making it waterproof and mildew-resistant without sealants, which void the warranty. It includes plastic gliders to prevent sliding on wet tiles, but installation requires drilling pilot holes that risk cracking the wood. The 12.25-inch seat depth serves as a task perch rather than a lounge seat, while the 17.75-inch height matches a standard dining chair. Outdoors, the teak weathers to silvery-gray; indoors it retains a golden-brown color. However, long-term durability in wet environments is unproven, and only one user comment expresses hope it holds up over time.
Verified claims
- Waterproofing
- This bench is made from 100% Grade-A solid teak, which is naturally waterproof and mildew-resistant on its own without sealants; applying any oil, varnish, or chemical product voids the warranty.
- Weathering
- Outdoors, the teak weathers to silvery-gray; indoor use retains golden-brown color.
- Slip resistance
- Comes with plastic gliders that can be installed on the bottom of the legs to prevent sliding and staining of light-colored grout or tile; installation requires drilling a small hole first to avoid cracking the wood.
- Stall clearance
- In a 30-inch-wide shower stall, the 15.75-inch bench leaves over 7 inches of clearance on each side, avoiding door-track interference and keeping the standing zone open.
- Seat depth
- The 12.25-inch seat depth is a compact task-perch fit, not a lounge seat.
- Seat height
- At 17.75 inches tall, the bench nearly matches the 18-inch standard of dining chairs, giving a familiar sitting and standing height.
- User feedback
- One buyer comment notes that long-term durability is uncertain and expresses hope the bench holds up over time.
- Durability
- Long-term durability in wet environments is not yet proven.
- Side table fit
- As a patio side table, the 17.75-inch height aligns with the armrests of typical deep-seating outdoor chairs (18–22 inches), and the bench's footprint stays under 1.4 sq ft for small balconies.
- Teak grade
- 100% Grade-A teak wood sourced from Perum Perhutani plantations.
- Natural finish
- Unfinished teak; applying oil or varnish voids warranty.
- Teak grade and sourcing
- The bench is made from 100% Grade-A solid teak sourced from responsibly managed Indonesian plantations (Perum Perhutani), and it is handcrafted by Indonesian artisans and designed in Canada.
- Year-round outdoor use
- The bench can be used outdoors year-round; Grade-A teak's high natural oil content protects it from rain, snow, and the elements without sealing.
- Assembled dimensions
- Assembled, this bench measures 15.75 inches long by 12.25 inches deep by 17.75 inches high (40 x 31 x 45 cm), with a footprint that needs about 18 inches of clearance; it is sized as a single-seat or footrest piece, not a wide two-person bench.
