Product Insights

The Simons Maison Faux-Wood Table Clock ($29) offers a quiet quartz movement accurate to ±15 sec/month, running 12–18 months on one AA battery, with a glass lens that is scratch-resistant and clearer than plastic alternatives. Its lightweight, smooth plastic body is UV- and moisture-resistant, easy to clean, and won't warp, but feels less substantial than real wood. The clock can be used in portrait or landscape orientation without assembly, fits in a bag or drawer, and provides durable, value-oriented timekeeping with the caveat that battery corrosion and movement replacement after 5–10 years require attention.

Verified claims

Silence
The quartz movement is quiet but not truly silent: the clock is advertised as silent, yet one buyer reports a low ticking sound that can be distracting.
Movement performance
Accurate to ±15 sec/month, runs 12–18 months on one AA, lasts 5–10 years with proper battery care.
Orientation
Switch between portrait and landscape orientation with no assembly.
Value
Dual orientation with glass lens at $29, unlike all-plastic rivals.
Weight
The surface feels smooth and plasticky, and the clock is lightweight.
Durability and care
The smooth plastic is easy to clean and water-resistant, resisting warping in humid rooms; the printed wood-grain finish is less prone to fading from sunlight than stained real wood.
Real-wood comparison
Compared to real-wood clocks, this faux-wood version is lighter, cheaper, and more moisture-resistant.
Lens material
Glass lens provides clearer dial view than plastic-lens competitors.
Movement life
Quartz movement lasts 5–10 years before needing replacement.
Accuracy
The clock maintains accuracy within ±15 seconds per month.
Battery care
Battery lasts 12–18 months; replace yearly to avoid corrosion.
Battery efficiency
Single AA battery provides 12-18 months of accurate timekeeping.
Size
At 3 x 3 x 3.5 inches, the clock fits in a bag or drawer.
Lens and accents
The clock has a faux-wood plastic housing with a real glass lens and aluminum hands, which are uncommon in budget table clocks.
Mounting
This clock is designed for tabletop or shelf display only; it does not have a hanger or keyhole slot for wall mounting.
Battery installation
A buyer reports the battery cover is hard to open and does not close securely after inserting an AA battery, making it feel fragile.
Light
A small light is activated by pressing the side of the clock, according to a buyer.
Faux-wood finish appearance
The faux-wood plastic typically has a printed wood grain pattern that reads as warm and textured from a few feet away but feels smooth and slightly plasticky up close.
Finish options
The clock is offered in a single 'Assorted' faux-wood finish; there is no way to select a specific tone such as light oak, walnut, or grey at checkout.
Footprint
The 3 x 3 inch base takes up about the same footprint as a standard 3 x 3 inch Post-it pad, so the clock fits on small surfaces like a windowsill, bookshelf niche, bathroom vanity shelf, or monitor riser.
Dial legibility
The analog dial is a near-field read: clear at arm's length on a desk or nightstand, but too small to check from across a room.

Faux-wood table clock

★★★★★Sizuko I.

The clock is very tiny and runs very efficiently.

Look good, but has quirks i do not want

★★★★★Monica R.

I wanted a table clock to put in my therapy office and this seemed cute. But, the quirks are making me return it - to slot in the battery, you need to move the outer cover, and the battery cover itself isn't easy - makes it feel like it may break easily. Plus, the battery cover does NOT close after you put a AA battery in there (as per spec). The clock also has a low ticking sound, which i did not want as it can be distracting. If you're ok with these quirks though, it is a beautiful looking clock and has a small light activated by pressing on the side.
