This is the Atrium Long-Footed Planter (56 cm high) from Gus, available at Simons Maison. It is a square steel and wood planter designed for indoor use, featuring a powder-coated steel body and legs made from responsibly sourced ash wood, with a removable galvanized metal tray. It measures 11.5 x 11.5 x 22 inches (29 x 29 x 56 cm), requires assembly, and is intended for use with pre-potted plants; filling it directly with soil is not recommended. User reviews note that the built-in false shelf promotes drainage and that the planter becomes heavy when filled, so it should be placed in its final location before adding plants.

Product Insights

The Atrium Long-Footed Planter 56 Cm High by Gus* is a Bauhaus-inspired piece that marries form and function: its square silhouette and exposed construction reflect the principle of material honesty, using powder-coated steel and FSC-certified ash wood. Priced at $300 CAD, it offers a removable tray, base bumpers, and 5-minute assembly for practicality, but requires indoor use due to powder-coat sensitivity to weather. The ash legs age to honey tones and resist wear with a Janka hardness of 1,320 lbf, yet the planter is heavy when filled and prone to marks, necessitating careful handling and dusting. Compatible with a 10-inch nursery pot, the tray lifts the pot to prevent root rot, but the filled unit has no good grip and should be placed on a wheeled coaster. While more expensive than the $129 Ferm Living alternative, it adds a tray and legs for enhanced functionality, though scratches can be repaired with sanding and spray paint.

I have this exact planter. That is a shelf and it’s meant to stay under the dirt so that water can flow downward and not cause rot. I honestly don’t think you need to remove it. The shelves in mine did seem to come out easily if I remember correctly, but again, I’m not sure you should need to remove it. One tip for you… Those planters get very heavy when they’re full of dirt. You may want to put it on a coaster with wheels, or move the planter to where it’ll stay before you fill it with dirt. There’s also no good place to grab onto the planter to move it so it’s a little awkward. I do love these planters though. I have 10 I think.
