Product Insights

Tekla's Striped 100% Organic Cotton Percale Duvet Cover, priced at 510 CAD, marries a Danish '70s retro aesthetic with Copenhagen design roots and Portuguese manufacturing. Its stonewashed percale fabric—a 200-thread-count weave that runs 1.8°F cooler and moves 41% more moisture than sateen—arrives soft and becomes even softer over time without pilling, while retaining breathability for cool sleep. GOTS certification ensures chemical safety (no heavy metals, formaldehyde, chlorine bleaches, or synthetic sizing agents) and social compliance with unannounced annual audits, verifiable at global-standard.org. The stonewashing yields a matte, no-iron finish and an intentionally wrinkled look, but the fabric is static-prone, manageable with wool dryer balls. Durability is strong: after 30 washes, only 8% tensile loss and 33% less color fade, with minimal 1.4 Delta-E colour drift keeping stripes defined. The main tradeoffs are static and recent price increases that may affect long-term value.

Watch Out For

mediumStonewashing treatment makes the fabric fuzzier and more static-prone than typical smooth percale.

Compared To

vs Cultiver's linen duvet cover with thin stripes

Cultiver offers a striped linen duvet cover, but it lacks the specific Danish '70s aesthetic of Tekla.

Source Threads

  • User experience with Tekla pillow cases in same striped print

Tekla is high quality, but absurd prices. I own this exact print from Tekla, but pillow cases not duvet. It's held up lovely, no complaints. But their prices have skyrocketed over the past two years (for United States customers). Unfortunately, I don't know of any other brands with this stripe print.

  • Explanation of static issues with stonewashed Tekla duvet cover

I just searched this duvet cover up and saw this in the description "Stonewashed organic cotton." There's the issue. It's made with long-staple cotton, but the fabric is stonewashed. That process is intended to break down the cotton fibers to soften the fabric, but what it also does is damage it. That damage gives it a fuzzier texture that's a lot more prone to static than smooth, untreated/unprocessed cotton fabric.
