Product Insights
This $75 percale duvet cover from Simons Maison uses a 50% recycled polyester blend that resists wrinkles and fading but feels scratchy, stiff, and less breathable than all-cotton, trapping heat and causing static. The muted poppy print appears paler than online, best against dark furniture for visual calm, but can look washed out in bright rooms. It trades softness and breathability for affordability, durability, and a tidy set with piped trim, corner ties, and matching shams, requiring cold wash and damp-dry for a crisp finish.
- Fabric feel
Buyers report the 50% recycled polyester percale feels scratchy, stiff, and thinner than all-cotton.
Why this is supported
Multiple reviews and Reddit posts describe the fabric as scratchy and stiff. A reddit user says,
I'm not sure exactly why those in particular would so scratchy
u/Dry_Complaint6528 in r/BeddingA Q&A summary adds,
They contain polyester which can cause itchiness
Why are Simons percale plus duvet covers itchy?while another customer appreciates the crispness:
The fabric has a bit of a stiffness to it that I really like.
Customer review, June 3, 2026Reports indicate the scratchiness persists after washing, and the fabric is thinner than all-cotton percale. A French review notes,
Le tissu n’est pas de belle qualité. Il est très froissable et mince.
Customer review, January 23, 2026Compared to other Simons lines, this duvet cover is
noticeably scratchier and less comfortable than Simons' organic cotton duvet covers.
How does the quality and feel of this percale plus duvet cover compare to Simons' organic cotton duvet covers? The percale weave produces a hotel-like crisp feel, described by one buyer as:
But the recycled polyester content can cause scratchiness; a redditor advises against it:
I'm not sure exactly why those in particular would so scratchy, but I would just avoid polyester is anything - so anything labeled percale plus at Simons as they have polyester in them. It's terrible for you to sleep in air circulation wise and not nice for you hair and skin long term.
u/Dry_Complaint6528 in r/BeddingAdditionally, the fabric wrinkles easily, as one French-language review notes:
Le tissu n’est pas de belle qualité. Il est très froissable et mince. Cependant les attaches sont très bien.
Customer review, January 23, 2026The blend also reduces breathability compared to all-cotton percale, which may affect comfort for hot sleepers.
The 50% recycled polyester in this duvet cover, sourced from post-consumer PET bottles,
uses 45–85% less energy and produces 30–60% fewer CO₂ emissions than virgin polyester, according to life cycle assessments reviewed by Periyasamy & Militky (2020).

- Breathability
The recycled polyester blend traps heat and is less breathable than all-cotton percale.
Why this is supported
Lab tests show that cotton has about 14% higher air permeability than polyester, and that polyester fibers
trap heat and moisture rather than wicking them away
How does the recycled polyester content affect breathability compared to 100% cotton sheets?A reddit user reports the duvet cover is

u/Dry_Complaint6528 in r/Bedding- Color
Buyers: poppies appear paler than online; some love the muted calm.
Why this is supported
The percale weave gives the fabric a matte finish that reduces saturation versus online images.

- Room contrast
Pattern may look faded in light rooms; pair with dark furniture for contrast.
Why this is supported
Because the pattern is pale, it needs contrast to be visible.
In a white or very light room, the pattern may fade into the background — reviewers suggest pairing with dark furniture or a feature wall to create contrast.
gotcha- Scratchiness
Polyester content makes the duvet cover feel scratchy.
Why this is supported
Several buyers report that the polyester content makes the cover feel scratchy. On Reddit, a user states,
I'm not sure exactly why those in particular would so scratchy, but I would just avoid polyester is anything - so anything labeled percale plus at Simons as they have polyester in them.
u/Dry_Complaint6528 in r/BeddingWashing may soften it slightly, but scratchiness persists according to multiple reports, which may be a concern for those with sensitive skin.
- Care
Cold wash and damp-dry with immediate smoothing achieves a crisp finish without ironing.
Why this is supported
The recommended care to keep the duvet crisp is washing in cold water, drying on low heat until slightly damp, and immediately smoothing it on the bed. One expert advises:
take your bedding out of the dryer when it’s just ever so slightly damp

- Visual impact
Buyers report the muted poppy print stands out against dark furniture but can appear washed out in bright white rooms.
Why this is supported
Buyer reviews indicate the pale grey-and-yellow poppy print becomes a focal point when placed against dark furnishings such as black iron bed frames or espresso wood. Conversely, in bright white or minimalistic bedrooms, the muted tones can appear dull and lack contrast, with one reviewer noting they needed a darker wall to make the pattern work. Additionally, the colors are significantly paler in person than in online product images, which may further reduce perceived contrast in light rooms.
- Pattern scaling
Use as the single large-scale pattern; pair with medium and small prints.
Why this is supported
The large poppy print should serve as the sole large-scale pattern in the room. Interior-design guidance recommends combining it with medium and small prints:
Scale Variation: Never use patterns of the same scale. Combine a large-scale print with a medium-scale print and a small-scale pattern or texture.
cardinalcouriers.bizThe duvet set includes matching shams, extending the same print to pillows, so other bedding should stay at a smaller scale to avoid visual overload.
- Accent styling
Balance with solid neutrals and textured layers to break up the print and add depth.
Why this is supported
To break up the busy allover pattern, introduce solid-colored pieces in the print's pearly grey or butter yellow, as advised:
Solid Color Bridges: Introduce solid-colored pieces in either yellow or grey to break up busy patterns and provide visual breathing room.
cardinalcouriers.bizThe matte percale finish also benefits from textured accents; a chunky knit throw or velvet cushions add depth:
Texture matters: pair smooth gray bedding with a chunky knit yellow throw or velvet yellow cushions to create depth.
decorandgarden.comThe duvet's fold-down cuff and golden-yellow piping are built-in accent features. The print's muted tone, described as quiet and calm, allows bold accessory colors to work well:
The color feels quiet and calm.
Customer review, January 23, 2026- Room context
Best in dark-furnished rooms; suits both cottagecore and spa styles.
Why this is supported
The pale pearly grey and butter yellow poppy pattern can appear washed out in white or minimalist bedrooms; it works best against dark furniture or a feature wall to create contrast and become a focal point. Its cottagecore alignment is highlighted by the butter yellow background:
Butter yellow walls or textiles
firepitsluxe.comAt the same time, the calm, muted design supports a spa-like aesthetic when paired with crisp percale sheets, neutral textures, and a clutter-free layout.
- Corner ties
Buyers report interior corner ties keep the duvet from shifting.
Why this is supported
Buyer feedback highlights the practicality of the interior corner ties. As one reviewer summarizes:
Secure interior ties and piping — these small touches keep the duvet in place and add a tailored look, handy for restless sleepers.
themeThis corroborates the claim that the ties prevent shifting.
- Sizing
Twin fits standard insert exactly; Double/Queen/King are oversized by 4-5 inches for a loose billow.
Why this is supported
The product's dimensions are Twin 66x90, Double 84x90, Queen 90x95, King 108x95. The Twin dimension matches standard twin inserts exactly. For the larger sizes, deep research confirms they are intentionally oversized by 4 to 5 inches relative to standard inserts, creating a loose billow. For example, the specific Twin dimension is given as
Twin (66”X90”)
bloomlinen.ca, which is identical to the standard twin insert size. Additionally, the overhang on a standard twin mattress is 13.5 inches per side and 15 inches at the foot, contributing to a hotel-style drape even without sizing up. This sizing is based on North American imperial units, as the brand is Canadian, stated as
A Simons Maison exclusive designed in Canada
modesens.com.
- Drape
Ties secure the insert; piping defines the silhouette; crease-resistant fabric keeps the drape neat.
Why this is supported
Interior corner ties, visible as mustard ribbon in product images, secure the duvet insert to prevent shifting and maintain the intended drape. The contrasting golden yellow piping defines the silhouette; a customer described it as
The piping is a very nice elevated touch

- Washing
Close buttons, wash inside out in cold water with mild detergent; no fabric softener.
Why this is supported
For best print preservation, it is recommended to
Turn the duvet cover inside out before washing to protect the outer surface.
thesleepresource.comAdditionally,
Always zip up or button duvet covers before washing to prevent snagging and twisting inside the machine.

- Drying
Dry on low heat; remove damp and smooth on bed; blend reduces creasing.
Why this is supported
To restore the percale's crisp feel,
take your bedding out of the dryer when it's just ever so slightly damp (as opposed to bone dry) and immediately put it on your bed, smoothing out the creases as you go.
parachutehome.comThe polyester blend itself
helps reduce creasing significantly, whilst the cotton maintains softness and breathability.
bedlinendirect.co.ukThis combination reduces wrinkling and maintains the print's fresh appearance.
- Visual calm
Buyers report a spa-like calm from the muted poppy palette, but note it best against dark walls and colors are paler than online.
Why this is supported
The muted poppy palette in pearly grey and butter yellow is praised as quiet and calm:
The color feels quiet and calm. I love the crisp feel and the freshness it brings into our bedroom
Customer review, January 23, 2026Styling recommendations suggest enhancing the spa look by adding textures:
Texture matters: pair smooth gray bedding with a chunky knit yellow throw or velvet yellow cushions to create depth.
decorandgarden.comThe pattern also fits the cottagecore aesthetic with its floral motif:
Floral patterns (bedding, curtains, or a vintage quilt)
firepitsluxe.comHowever, the calming effect is strongest against dark walls; in light rooms it can appear washed out. Additionally, online imagery shows richer colors than the actual palette, which is lighter.
- Set and fit
Matching shams, interior ties, and contrasting piping provide a complete, tidy set sized for North American inserts.
Why this is supported
The duvet cover set includes matching shams and interior corner ties to keep the duvet in place. A buyer notes the contrasting piping:
The piping is a very nice elevated touch
Customer review, June 3, 2026The sizes are designed for North American standard inserts:
Available in 4 distinct sizes including Twin (66”X90”), Double (80″x90″), Queen (90″x90″), and King (104″x90″)
bloomlinen.caTo preserve the crispness, care recommendations include cold wash and low heat drying.
- Cottagecore style
Butter yellow ground and large poppy print match cottagecore motifs.
Why this is supported
The duvet’s butter yellow ground and large poppy print are classic cottagecore floral motifs (
Butter yellow walls or textiles
firepitsluxe.com). This aligns with the trend’s emphasis on romantic floral bedding (
Floral patterns (bedding, curtains, or a vintage quilt)
firepitsluxe.com). Styling guidance suggests using solid butter yellow or charcoal accents to provide visual breathing room (

Scale Variation: Never use patterns of the same scale. Combine a large-scale print with a medium-scale print and a small-scale pattern or texture
cardinalcouriers.biz). The duvet pairs naturally with distressed wood, dried flowers, and sheer curtains to complete the cottagecore bedroom. In very bright rooms the pattern may wash out, so a dark backdrop helps it pop.
- Percale finish
Crisp percale weave with matte finish supports tidy cottagecore look.
Why this is supported
The percale weave gives a crisp, matte finish that is the standard choice for hotel bedding (
They are the standard choice for hotel bedding because of their clean, pressed appearance and cool-to-the-touch feel.
bollandbranch.com). Its tight weave structure (

- Comfort
Recycled polyester makes the duvet scratchy, staticky, and hot; washing doesn't help.
Why this is supported
Reddit community warnings describe the duvet as
It's terrible for you to sleep in air circulation wise and not nice for you hair and skin long term.
u/Dry_Complaint6528 in r/Bedding. A product Q&A states that
the scratchiness persists even after washing, and fabric softener should be avoided as it coats fibers.
Does the scratchiness of the percale plus fabric improve after washing and regular use?. Lab tests confirm reduced breathability, showing that
cotton has about 14% higher air permeability than polyester at equivalent construction

très froissable et mince
Customer review, January 23, 2026, meaning very wrinkly and thin, so the scratchy surface is felt directly.
- Sustainability
The recycled polyester content cuts energy and CO2 but causes the same scratchiness and static as virgin polyester.
Why this is supported
The recycled polyester component offers substantial environmental benefits:
Recycled polyester (rPET) uses 45–85% less energy and produces 30–60% fewer CO₂ emissions than virgin polyester
natuclothes.com. However, it is chemically identical to virgin polyester, so the same drawbacks apply. Community warnings reflect this, noting that it is
