Carven is a French ready-to-wear fashion house founded by Carmen de Tommaso in 1945. Feeling that she was too short (she was 5'1) Mme de Tommaso decided to design her own clothes, based on her very democratic vision of fashion. She was the first to put forward affordable luxury and to read the signs of the times by offering simple, sophisticated fashion, based on the idea of Parisian chic. Her customer base quickly expanded, and included European royalty and movie stars.
